The nursing home portfolio was an innovative attempt to repurpose shuttered nursing homes in rural communities into contributing residential assets. Each building presented a generally consistent structure from which new housing could be integrated. Designs called for individual entry, zero entry units, making them ideal for an aging in place setting. Projects were delivered with a variety of funding sources and serving a mix of incomes in each community, increasing the supply of both affordable and workforce housing. Additional amenities and features were experimented with including community gardens, renewable energy, and unit designs.
